TEEN Academy

The TEEN Academy was created in 2021 as Cultural Summer Camp on Giglio Island, aimed at young people aged 15 to 25 and artists and cultural workers from all over Europe, with the purpose of bringing theater and art to a place surrounded by nature and great identity, outside the usual seasonality.

Giglio Island, with the TEEN Academy becomes a crossroads for teenagers from all over Europe thanks to the network of international festivals of which SEGNI is a member, inviting a delegation of TEENs as well as cultural workers, Artistic Directors and Cultural Managers from different realities.

The goal is to bring together, in the beauty of the events and naturalistic places, tourists, islanders, young spectators, national and international artists and cultural workers, fostering experience with artistic languages and the emergence of transgenerational confrontation and dialogue, on which the TEEN method designed and tested by Segni Associazione is based.

This format is a travel opportunity aimed at discovering theater and performing arts, creating dialogue and discussion among peers from different parts of Italy and other countries through shared viewing of performances, participation in workshops and discussions:

in the program of activities, engaging participants as protagonists as well as spectators, the Teen Academy proposes the format of TEEN Trekking discussions (dialogues made in the time of a walk in the company of artists and cultural workers), the now ritual TEEN Kitchen Table (set par excellence of debate and discussion around a ‘table’), meetings with stakeholders and artists of the island, and curatorial participation in site-specific performances, i.g. contributing with one’s own ideas to the creative process of a show.

An unprecedented “study vacation,” between theater, nature and performing arts, that allows for the creation of a cultural community, which – thanks to SEGNI’s year-round activities – remains connected, online and live with activities around various festivals and theater seasons.

Applications are currently open for the TEEN Academy at Giglio Island 2024, as part of the ForesTEEN” project (ForesTEEN Academy). For more information and instructions on how to apply visit the dedicated news by clicking here.
